Background Info and Provenance

A Jema cat figure made in Holland in the 1960’s. This is a substantial piece, measuring about 26cm in height. This piece is engraved, Jema Holland 616. This piece mimics the famous (and very collectable) Rimini Blu colourway released by Bitossi (Italy) in the 1950’s. Jema did copies of some Bitossi animals (which have become almost as popular as the Bitossi ones) but this design is their own- I love it! Sleek and stylish and the face is beautiful. Some of their cat designs look like they’ve been hit on the head with a frying pan or like they’re on psychedelic drugs or something (which I suspect is why they are collectable too). This one however has a very endearing, friendly look.

The Jema cats in the Rimini Blu colourway are extremely rare- I don’t think I’ve ever come across one before (after 17 years in this business)- much rarer than Bitossi cats and Bitossi cats are fetching about AU $450 at the moment.

This is a smart investment. The collector websites for Jema pieces are starting to pop up in Europe now. Jema has a huge repertoire of interesting designs (in the thousands) and this adds to the investment appeal. The real beauty of owning this Jema cat is knowing it won’t be in vogue for just a season or even a couple of years before ending up as landfill. This piece has survived 50 years and for the last 17 years I’ve been in this business Jema has been highly sought-after (especially the bulls, cats and horses). There’s no better way to invest in your home and the future of our environment. If you need a change in the future, sell it because I can’t see why this Jema piece won’t be at least as valuable in the future as it is today. (We would always accept a piece like this in iNVISeDGE to sell under consignment.)
