Background Info and Provenance

(Written in 2022. Some information may be time sensitive.)

ONE Kosta Boda dachshund measuring 14cm in length. This piece would make the perfect gift for that crazy dachshund lover! This figure is part of the Kosta Boda Kennel or Dog series. Technically this is a Boda piece because the Kennel series was produced before Kosta Boda merged in 1976. It is my understanding these were made in the early-1970’s. I’ve got several dogs in my own Kennel series collection that have a “Boda- Handmade in Sweden” foil label- the label that was used in the early-1970’s. (The dachshund in this listing does NOT have a label- nearly all of them don’t).

The dogs in the Kosta Boda Kennel series are virtually non-existent here in Australia. To my knowledge none in this series were ever retailed here. Some of the dogs in this series are much harder to find than others (on a worldwide platform). This is what makes them even more interesting. The poodle for example is extremely rare. The value of these is dependent on the rarity.

I’m pretty sure that this concept started with zoo animals as part of the Zoo Series with a zebra, tiger, lion, camel and rhinoceros (amongst others). Due to the popularity of the Zoo Series, other series were done using the same concept such as the Kennel Series, Circus Series (and possibly the Farm Series). There is surprisingly little information on these series- I can’t find anything really except a couple of discussion boards where people say how much they like them. Some dealers say they were designed by Erik Hoglund and others say Bertil Vallien. The more experienced tend to say Vallien who is the most successful of all Kosta Boda’s designers. Kosta Boda is arguably the most successful glassworks in the world. The Kennel Series is set to increase in value in the future as they become harder to get. (I for one will be tightly hanging onto my collection- I love them. This is an extra piece I recently found.) These creatures are all HAND-MADE from crystal and around 50 years old.

I can’t see the Kennel Series losing any value in the future. (I’ve seen first-hand how the Zoo Series has increased in value over the last 10 years. The dogs in the Boda Kennel Series should do the same in the future.) There’s no chance this HAND-MADE piece will end up as landfill because he’s gone out of style- the idea and design is so ingenious, it has superseded trends. After many modern pieces have ended up as landfill this piece will be passed onto yet another loving home. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and our environment.

Zoo Series creatures we currently have available for sale. Please note this list is subject to change-

Small Hippo- approx. 10cm long – about $69 (small hippos are quite hard to get)

Large Elephant- 15cm long – about $92 (elephants have mid-range rarity- they’re quite hard to get in Australia though- I got this one from overseas- the weight means less of them have come to Australia because of high international postage costs)

Rhino- around $105

Curly-horned Ibex / Antelope with original foil label (most don’t have the labels on them)- 14cm high- I’d have to confirm the price- it’s around $105

Large Lion- see the separate iNVISeDGE listing – SORRY SOLD!! (But we are endeavouring to get another one- SMS us if you have interest.)

Smaller Giraffe- 18cm (it’s still much taller than all the larger animals in this series)- $99 (the giraffes are hard to get in Australia but not ridiculously rare like the tiger and 2-humped camel) – SORRY SOLD!! (But we are endeavouring to get another one- SMS us if you have interest.)

Small lion- 10.5cm long- $58 (the small lion is much harder to get compared to the larger lion) – SORRY SOLD!! (But we are endeavouring to get another one- SMS us if you have interest.)

Other Boda items I have that are in related series (same style as these)-

Boda Unicorn- 15cm long (Fantasy Series I think it’s called)- $78

Other Zoo Series that we are endeavouring to get in again-

Small elephant- approx 10cm long

Large Hippo- approx 13cm long (there’s a ginormous hippo as well that’s 23cm in length- it’s too big to be displayed with the others- it looks odd with the smaller ones)

2 humped camel (so so soooooooo rare that I can’t part with him!)

Large Giraffe- 24cm in height

Tiger-

2003

Overall this Kosta Boda dachshund is in excellent condition for its age. There is NO damage- NO chips, NO cracks. There may be minor signs of use to be expected of a piece that’s about 50 years old but nothing that’s noticed at all. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The dachshund has a length of 14cm and stands about 8.5 in height. Weight- the last one of these that we had weighed 255 grams. Weights will vary slightly because they are HAND-MADE. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Read my 1200+ ebay feedback comments (ALL for vintage furniture/decorative arts SALES). This is your guarantee that I strive to describe all my items as accurately as I can and I will not stock items unless they are in excellent condition.
PICK-UP . . . from 30 or 40 minutes North of BRISBANE city is accepted but postage is preferred as my home is hard to find. Because of this I will nominate a friend or family member for you to collect the item from if you need collection. Pick-up in person must be worked out prior to purchase- thank you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE is offered internationally. All our Decorative Arts pieces are delivered through AUSTRALIA POST. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE ESTIMATES. . . . ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To BRISBANE- most of our pieces cost $15 - $18 to send. . . To SYDNEY or MELBOURNE- Small Vase- around $20 - $23, Medium Vase- around $20 - $25, Large Vase- around $24 - $30. Let us know if you need an EXACT COST for postage prior to purchase. The above postage estimates include $2.95 for a signature on delivery. . . INSURANCE against being lost or broken in transit up to the value of $200 is included in the estimates above. If your vase is cheaper or more expensive than $200 this will effect your postage fee slightly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A BOXING FEE of $3.00 is included in the fee above to cover the cost of searching for and storing used packing materials. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
We accept DIRECT BANK DEPOSIT. We send photographic ID of the store owner (Michael Grealy) to all customers at the point of sale, along with media articles about iNVISeDGE with photos of Michael Grealy in them (most of these articles are about 10 years old). Your payment will be paid into an Australian ANZ bank account under the name Michael Grealy (or iNVISeDGE). Please read our ebay feedback spanning more than 15 years for irrefutable proof of our online trading history and reputation. Ebay feedback can ONLY be left by LEGITIMATE PAYING customers! Additionally please be aware that in Australia ALL consumers are protected BY LAW if the goods or services they buy are not as described. (But this should be of no concern- in our first 15 years of trading we have over 1150 positive ebay feedback comments and ZERO negative feedback comments.) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On occasions a DIRECT BANK DEPOSIT can be made at the time of collection. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On occasions CASH payment when you collect your item may also be available. Confirm prior to purchase if you need this. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Other payment methods are available but problematic and may incur additional fees. Tell us prior to purchase if you are unable to feel 100% confident with our trading history and payment methods so we can negotiate something else with you.
