Background Info and Provenance

A large orange bulbous art glass piece by Erik Hoglund which could also be used as a candle-holder. This piece is HAND-MADE from a unique semi-opaque orange glass. Hoglund was a painter, sculptor, draftsman, and print-maker. He was affiliated with Boda as a designer 1953-1973- it was in the 1960’s this piece was produced. Hoglund revolutionized the Swedish glass movement and created unique works and artefacts in glass, wrought iron, and various combinations, wooden furniture and sculptures in a range of mediums. His work is included in museums around the world. He has also created over 150 commissioned works for public spaces in Sweden and overseas. Many of these public sculptures are valued around $100,000.

This art glass piece is an example of one of his earlier works and is particularly rare. Hoglund designed a number of shapes in this series and I found a couple of the other shapes while researching this listing (look on the 1st dibs website- various smaller ones are priced around $1000 each). In the week I looked there were none in this design for sale anywhere in the world. I have seen this shape in a pastel blue colour in one of the “glass design bibles” (it was not for sale)- I can’t remember which book I saw it in anymore.

This is an important piece of glass design from a highly celebrated creator. It looks amazing as part of a group. (The others shown in the group are mainly Italian from the 60’s and NOT INCLUDED.) This piece is about 50 years old and will continue to tell stories after most modern stuff has ended up in the bin. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and our environment.
