Provenance and Background Info

A Kosta Boda Seaside vase designed by Goran Warff. This piece is crystal and has beautiful clarity. It draws you in with the incredible thickness of the crystal. It looks different from every angle and the way the blue streaks refract within the piece is mesmerizing. This piece is meant to evoke feelings of the ocean and the sky above. It certainly  has a crisp freshness to it. I just love the play of light through it- it’s just spellbinding.

To my knowledge these were never retailed in Australia so they are virtually never seen here. They’re ridiculously heavy (over 2.5kg unpacked) which makes it restrictive for any retailer to stock them. Postage cost of a single one of these from the UK would be around AU $110. From the USA it would cost about AU $85 in postage for one to Australia. These are still currently being sold new through various websites. Art Glass Vista which is the biggest supplier of Kosta Boda in the world currently has them currently on sale for $323. Art Glass Vista is based in Europe so $110 for postage would put its value at about $430 in Australia. There’s a website in the UK called iapetus that has them for GBP 295 ($AU465).

These have been retailed for some years and I’ve seen various different Kosta Boda labels on them. The new ones have an ARTIST’S CHOICE LABEL on them. The older ones never did. I’d say this is one of the early ones. It also has less blue in it compared to the new ones- I prefer this. The shape, design and size are all identical and the piece is certainly crystal.

Goran Warff is one of the most celebrated creators of our time and his work resulting from his experimentation of incredibly thick crystal is some of his most popular. He’s now done a variety of shapes and colours in this style.

After much home décor has lost favour and ended up as landfill, this Kosta Boda piece will be passed onto yet another owner and eventually a whole new generation. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and our environment.
