Price of $77 is for ONE LARGE Zebra (15cm long) only. Sorry SOLD in July 2020!

If I happen to find another large zebra it’ll be MORE than $77, at least $95 I’d say (I haven’t got any Zebras for 7 years now). If you want to sell your Zoo Series get in contact with us! Others in the photos may be available separately. Enquire if you have interest in any of the others. The postage price will be basically the same for one or any number of these Boda zoo animals.(For a guide of postage prices click on the DELIVERY tab.)

Background Info and Provenance

ONE LARGE Boda zebra measuring 15cm in length. This figure is often called the horse but I’m certain it’s the zebra (it has stripes in the mane only). There is a zebra in the series and I think this is it. This figure is part of the Zoo series sold before Kosta Boda had merged- it was made by Boda in the 1970’s. I’ve got several animals in my own collection that have a “Boda- Handmade in Sweden” foil label- this “Boda” label verifies that the zoo series is pre-1976. (The zebra on offer here DOES NOT have a label).

Kosta Boda zebras are virtually non-existent here in Australia. To my knowledge the zebras were never retailed here.

Due to the popularity of the Zoo Series other series were released by ( Kosta ) Boda including the Circus Series and Farm series. There is surprisingly little information on them- I can’t find anything really except a couple of discussion boards where people say how much they like them. Some dealers say they were designed by Erik Hoglund and others say Bertil Vallien. The more experienced tend to say Vallien who is the most successful of all Kosta Boda’s designers. Kosta Boda is arguably the most successful glassworks in the world. The Kosta Boda zoo series is set to increase in value in the future as they become harder to get. (I for one will be tightly hanging onto my collection- I love them. This is an extra piece I recently found in my travels.) These creatures are all HAND-MADE from crystal and over 40 years old.

I can’t see the zoo series losing any value in the future. There’s no chance this HAND-MADE piece will end up as landfill because he’s gone out of style- the idea and design is so ingenious it has superseded trends. After many modern pieces have ended up as landfill this piece will be passed onto yet another loving home. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and our environment.

We always have Kosta Boda Zoo creatures in stock (not all of them are always in stock but most are. Enquire if you have interest in these creatures. At the time of writing prices range from AUD $64 for a small lion to AUD $185 for the larger giraffe (that’s 24cm in height).

Other Boda items I have that are in related series (same style as these)-

Boda Unicorn- 15cm long (Fantasy Series I think it’s called)- $78

Boda Afghan Hound- large- 16cm long (there are Dogs- they’re called the Kennel Series)- $78

Other Kosta Zoo Series in my own collection that may or may not be available at the moment

Small elephant- approx 10cm long

Large elephant- approx 16cm long

Large Hippo- approx 12.5cm long (there’s a ginormous hippo as well that’s 23cm in length- it’s too big to be displayed with the others- it looks odd with the smaller ones)

Curly-horned Ibex / Antelope with original foil label (most don’t have the labels on them)- 14cm high

2 humped camel (so so rare that I can’t part with him!)

Small Giraffe- 18cm in height

Large Giraffe- 24cm in height
