Background Info and Provenance

A Vicke Lindstrand footed bowl that’s engraved to the base LH 1035. This design was released around 1952. Lindstrand went through a phase where he experimented with lines and cross-hatching and these designs are hugely popular today. What creates a hit is the intermingling of lines from the back and front. Through both sides a more intricate weave is formed similar to a fish-net.

Today Vicke Lindstrand’s work is some of the most highly collectable mid-century glass in the world. His designs may initially seem simple but they make you do a double-take and this is what has made them so popular.

HAND-MADE art that’s European and over 50 years old is virtually never found in Australia. This is the first of these I’ve seen here. It also has the acid etch that reads, “Lindstrand- Kosta”. This denotes that the piece is an earlier release and heightens its investment appeal. The design number is etched to the base in the “chicken-scratch” hand also indicating it was made in the 50’s.

This Kosta piece is one to be passed from one generation to the next. Kosta Boda is probably the most successful glass-works ever and this is one of the earlier pieces released well before Kosta and Boda amalgamated. The design captivates just as much today as it did back then. Instead of adding to global pollution consider buying vintage- there are very few better ways you can invest in your home and our environment.
