Background Info and Provenance
(This sofa sold through iNVISeDGE for $1350 back in 2014.)
An Australian designer sofa by Matt Butler. This sofa is part of the T-Series manufactured by Matthew Butler’s furniture label ‘Blue-square’. The piece has two labels to identify the design and maker. This addition to the iNVISeDGE stock inventory is a breath of fresh air. This is a highly-awarded Australian design and yes Australians have produced a plethora of amazing designs from the early 1950’s through to the late 1970’s but it basically ended there. Matt Butler’s designs are a notable exception. The highly-acclaimed T-Series was designed for the Sydney Olympics in the year 2000. I visited Matt’s website before purchasing this piece- it took minutes to be keen to stock this sofa. Matthew’s furniture designs are exhibited in national and international galleries including Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum. The T-Series uses eco-certified materials and is built for heavy-traffic commercial interiors such as banks, airports, universities and offices. This really sold me- the piece has been built to last. It’s modern, stylish, artful, sophisticated AND built to last- a rare combination these days. Deakin University, Brisbane International Airport, National Australia Bank and ‘The Movie Show’ on SBS Television all use T-Series chairs.
When I first sat on this lounge I was pleasantly surprised. The comfort is exceptional- it’s a lot more comfortable than it looks so it’d also be perfect in any application including the lounge room. The back section is flexible near the top which allows you to lean back slightly in this lounge which enhances the comfort. The angles are all conducive to comfort as is the height of the back. The architectural styling of this piece would give any space a creative and unique edge- but it’s also slimline and smart allowing it to nestle in with virtually any interior.
Stunning looks, combined with comfort and commercial-grade construction- commercial grade fabric and a high quality inner frame. These lounges retail from Insitu in Melbourne for $3200- this lounge presents incredibly well (in showroom condition).
One of the labels underneath shows that the lounge was built in 2004 and it came out of someone’s lounge room- when a piece looks like this after 10 years of use you have irrefutable evidence of the quality you’re buying. After most modern lounges have ended up as landfill (which is fully intended by the manufacturers) this high-quality Australian production from Blue-Square will be passed onto yet another owner telling another story as it goes. When you invest in items built to last you have the comfort of knowing there is no better way to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
