Background Info and Provenance

A Limited Edition Painting by listed Austrian painter, Michael Kravagna. This painting jumped out at me the second I saw it. The layers, texture, the depth and feeling that jumps out is something I will struggle to convey in words. The painting seems to unfold in front of your eyes, the longer you look, the layers peel back one by one, exposing a different feeling, a different spark and a different area of intrigue. It’s almost as if the piece transforms in front you. I feel the ocean and the beach when I look at this one- I’m not sure if I exactly see the beach but this is the feeling I get. There are rock-pools with slugs leaving an imprint along the bottom- the slippery floor – the rush as a wave spills over an rocky outcrop and swirls into the pool- the cavernous depths of the ocean – the layers of life below the golden surface of sparkle and froth. The sand, the sun, beach umbrellas. There is the undersea too – fish in bright reds exploring the depths – there’s synergy and balance of life. Why I feel these things when I look at this painting I don’t know as I can’t really see the ocean I just feel as though I’m there when I look at this one. It’s a painting I imagine in a house near the beach or a house where the feeling of the beach wants to be thought of and easily accessed.

I was interested to read that Michael Kravagna’s paintings are painted over long periods of time- this part intrigues me- our feelings change over time and I see a jumble of feelings in this piece. A painting like this is a reminder to us that there is purpose and energy in art that has been created by a person and not a machine. There’s creativity in this piece- an unfolding of a person’s imagination, a texture – a feel – that would be completely lost if it was printed out by a machine. In his works, Michael reflects on natural processes- true art is one of the most natural processes on earth- he experiments with the idea of growth and decay- formation and erosion. He explores the transformation of matter as it motivates and accelerates – deteriorates and fades – restores and regrows.

This HAND-MADE work of art is ready to be framed and enjoyed in your space and ready to be passed from one custodian to the next telling more stories as it goes. I believe that it will also accrue more value as it goes along. I’ve included a screenshot from a gallery’s website in Germany that’s currently representing Michael’s work. His work is both ingenious and creative and I see no reason why this artist won’t continue to reach new heights in his career- it’s a rare thing indeed when an artist can convey so much in such a seemingly simple way.

If you believe artist jobs should NOT be given to machines consider investing in hand-made paintings or artwork- this sends a clear message that you would like artist jobs to be given back to people. There are few better ways to invest in your home, reduce your carbon footprint and landfill.
