Provenance and Background Info (Written in 2015)

A SOLID Oregon timber banquet dining table that extends to a length of 2.87m. This table is huge and seats 12 when extended but for family gatherings you could also squeeze in 14. They don’t come much longer than this. They also don’t come much higher in quality either. In the sub-title I wrote that the replacement value would be about $5000. This is being conservative. This piece was HAND-CRAFTED (in Australia) by Naturally Timber in Stanmore, Sydney. Hand-crafted tables in SOLID timber done by the likes of Jimmy Possum, Mark Tuckey and Coco Republic would be in the vicinity of $10 000 in this size. I like this piece more than most others I’ve seen though. The Oregon timber is stunning and a timber you don’t come across often. I have a certificate that came with this table (included in the sale) verifying that the piece was hand-crafted in Australia, it’s Oregon but what really sold me is that this certificate proves this timber came out of the General Post Office at Martin Place, Sydney. This is the type history that really brings a piece to life- it gives it colour and separates it from the crowd. And tables normally are lost in the crowd- this is a rare investment. To own a piece with colourful and rich history is not something you come across often these days- imagine the people and different time periods this timber has seen. To top it off this is a piece that’s timeless in design. It was built in the late 1990’s. Nearly 20 years on the design with the barn-door type styling is still being done (I still see it in Coco Republic today but with price tags quadruple this).

Additionally this is as durable as it gets. It’s SOLID TIMBER (and crafted properly in Australia by HAND- not flat-packed and shipped across from China). Therefore it will last forever. There’s no veneer- the solid Oregon pieces have been carefully selected so this piece looks stunning and there is no need for veneer. Solid timber furniture is easy to restore and hard to damage.

Investing in quality furniture is simple. When items look like this after about 20 years of use the quality is assured and if the design is still being done today it will never go out of style. There are no better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
