ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR LOUNGE SUITE
This is the “Norse” occasional chair, one of Pacific Green’s newer designs. This particular chair was used in a second lounge room as an extra lounge chair and was also regularly pulled into a desk to use as a desk chair. This design was released by Pacific Green about 10 years ago. This suite has a unique look- it’s in Pacific Green’s trademark “resort” style but also has a contemporary, designer aesthetic. This sort of look is all the rage at the moment- the look is fresh, edgy, TIMELESS. The “Norse” chair even has a Danish furniture aesthetic to it with these “clean lines” and the angular tapered legs. I can’t see this design ever going out of style. Pacific Green has hit the nail on the head here! And furniture in the “Norse” design is RARE- this is the first time I’ve seen one of these chairs enter the secondary market. Miss this one and I doubt you’ll come across another one like this for some time … if ever. This Pacific Green design is a perfect sitting chair and my vendor said was also perfect to use as a desk chair. She found it very comfortable and loved the inspiring look. The back, seat and cushioning supports and softens in all the right places- this chair not only looks amazing but is so comfy to sit in too. I love the stonewash leather as well- it adds a subtle point of interest without being too “over-the-top”. This upholstery is fresh, contemporary and fits in well with the resort-style vibe.
Further information about Pacific Green Furniture
Pacific Green Furniture is one of the most inspiring brands in the world. It’s an Australian brand with humble beginnings starting back in the early-1970’s (as Post & Rail Furniture). Today in 2024, over 50 years on, Pacific Green is one of the most coveted furniture brands not only in Australia but the world. Pacific Green Furniture items in the USA can sell for DOUBLE what they sell for here. I’ve been dealing in pre-loved furniture for 23 years now- it takes a lot for anything to stand out to me these days but Pacific Green without a doubt is exceptional in every regard. I specialise in finding items found in Australia- I don’t go overseas and fill up containers to bring here. We have so much inspiring stuff here in Australia there’s no need to. In my years in this business, I believe Pacific Green is the best furniture brand to ever come out of Australia. Tessa and FLER come close (but Tessa/FLER items tended to mimic what was done overseas at the time). Pacific Green does its own thing- their designs are distinctive, interesting, earthy, creative and certainly have “wow-factor”. But stunning design is a small part of the appeal. The quality is exceptional. The CRAFTSMANSHIP BY HAND is exceptional. The ethos of Pacific Green is exceptional.
Pacific Green Furniture uses SOLID coconut timber for the manufacture of all their furniture. Coconut wood is a HARDWOOD- more resilient than virtually any timber- it thrives in areas battered by tropical cyclones. Pacific Green Furniture use abandoned plantations of coconut palm trees in the South Pacific that were commercially planted in the early-1900s but have reached the end of productive fruiting. Instead of going to waste, Pacific Green uses this valuable SUSTAINABLE resource.
But the best part in my eyes is that Pacific Green set a benchmark for modern, sustainable business for other businesses to follow. In the late-1980’s land was leased, not bought, to respect indigenous ownership. The initial Pacific Green factory was built in consultation with surrounding villages and employed only local people. Business and skills training programmes were established. The initial Pacific Green factory is still OWNED BY FIJIANS- the drive of the business is still Australian- the designing arm happens here in Australia.
I am inspired and heartened that a small Australian business changed tack the way they did back in the late-1980’s when ecological threats and socially-conscious business was barely thought of.
I love scouting to find exciting furniture. Furniture like this is the reason I do this job. Pacific Green Furniture ignites inspiration- PG ticks every box and proves that businesses can be successful, ecologically responsible and socially-aware. Pacific Green Furniture has been built to last and will continue to tell stories well after you and I are gone- just like Post & Rail furniture already has. Mark my words, Pacific Green will be the antiques of tomorrow. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
