Description

SOLD to Vinh- within a couple of hours of these photos appearing on our website. ($2295 the PAIR- 2021).

Our listed price is PER CHAIR. ($2295 the PAIR). If you have interest in the matching pair come forward quickly as we will be considering offers on single chairs as well. (They’re fairly big chairs so could work as singles as well.)

This pair is being sold under consignment by a private seller in Mudgeeraba on the GOLD COAST (near Robina). I personally worked with these chairs and took the photos.

The leather on this pair is an off-white (with beige tones running through it). It’s beautiful leather- definitely FULL-GRAIN LEATHER but I think it’s Aniline leather too which is even more expensive again (and very rarely seen- aniline leather is very expensive). The grain of the leather is beautiful (earthy and natural).

The Pacific Green star has risen to new heights and is even more sought-after since the last suite we had in this design (which was back 2016). This particular design is VINTAGE Pacific Green. It was made in the mid-1990’s for about 7 years and eventually evolved to become the Cayenne design. A pair of Cayenne chairs now sell through Pacific Green for $5000 THE PAIR NEW (2021). See the screenshot included in the listing. This PAIR is better than those and MUCH harder to get compared to the newer Cayenne model. The pair on offer is 25 years old and a very solid investment. Pacific Green is only rising in value so discontinued VINTAGE Pacific Green designs are a RARE and obvious investment. This offering is NOT a furniture purchase but an INVESTMENT. Both chairs also present extremely well and the quality is INCREDIBLE.

Provenance and Background Info

(Written in 2016 but updated in 2021.)

The pictured suite is second-hand and over 20 YEARS OLD- look at the quality!

An exceptional quality PAIR of leather lounge ARMCHAIRS by highly-awarded company, Pacific Green. Pacific Green is at the top in my eyes- they offer it all and have their own original style that others wouldn’t even try to copy.

This suite was made about 25 years ago- the design has changed since then. I like this variation more than the current Cayenne design (which Pacific Green still sell- a pair of chairs in the Cayenne design (in FULL-GRAIN leather) retail today for about $5000 new). This design is one of the most stunning I’ve ever seen after 20 years in this business and the quality is truly exceptional- this pair is very heavy and solid. The frames will most likely last forever. The colour of the leather is perfect in my eyes- this is a bold design that’s really noticed, this off-white leather softens the overall look. In the right home, this suite would look incredible but is also warm and inviting- not clinical looking like most designer furniture.

Pacific Green originated from the Post & Rail brand which started in Sydney in the 1970’s and is heralded for its construction quality. Post & Rail grew into an international brand and in the late 1980’s they did the unthinkable. With a highly successful brand they changed tack completely. With the world’s new concern with deforestation and ecological threats, Post & Rail closed and re-branded as Pacific Green. Pacific Green searched the world for a sustainable quality timber for their future furniture production- the solution? Coconut wood. In the South Pacific, they found vast abandoned plantations of coconut palm trees, which were commercially planted in the early-1900s but had reached the end of productive fruiting. The best part? Coconut wood is a HARD-WOOD that’s more resilient than virtually any timber. It thrives in areas battered by tropical cyclones.

After I’d found out that, I not only wanted the suite I’d found but wanted to start stocking new Pacific Green furniture in iNVISeDGE (which would be a first for us because we only sell pre-loved furniture). But there’s more. Pacific Green set a benchmark for modern, sustainable business in the Pacific. In the late 1980’s land was leased, not bought, to respect indigenous ownership. Their factory was built in consultation with surrounding villages and employed only local people. Business and skills training programmes were established. The majority of the business is owned by Fijians- the drive is still Australian- the designing arm and retailing strategy happens here in Australia.

Pacific Green today has grown from that little furniture-making firm that started in the Rocks, Sydney back in 1973 (as Post & Rail). I am inspired and heartened they changed tack back in the late 1980’s when ecological threats were barely thought of. I can write nothing critical about these chairs or Pacific Green- if I wasn’t busy with iNVISeDGE I’d want a job with them.

The quality is exceptional and the construction incredibly DURABLE (all made BY HAND)- the leather- luxurious, the looks- exceptional and timeless, the investment appeal- exceptional, the comfort- brilliant. They’re great chairs to sit in- great angles, supportive and the right amount of padding. The Americans are going gaga over Pacific Green at the moment and they’re paying a lot more than us. Pacific Green is really coming into its own.

The best thing about Pacific Green is the inspiration it evokes- PG ticks every box and proves that businesses can be successful, ecologically-responsible and socially aware. This pair of armchairs have been built to last generations and will continue to tell stories for centuries to come (probably forever)- Pacific Green furniture will be the antiques of tomorrow. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill.

BOTH are strong, heavy chairs and structurally very solid as they have a steel sub-structure. Cosmetically the timber shows minor signs of use. Several posts have a few knocks as shown in the photos. These could easily be rectified within minutes. This is a private consignment so I wasn't able to do this when I photographed the chairs (I didn't have anything to tidy it up with me). The chairs have a tribal look so I like them as they are- in situ this is not noticed. The chairs show a few other signs of age but nothing else that's worth a specific mention. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The leather upholstery is in excellent condition. It has a few minor signs of use (again, clearly shown) but nothing that warrants a specific mention. I'd say this is aniline leather. Aniline leather is not painted so it's best to keep this leather conditioned to protect it from spills and from darkening in areas of use. These chairs are old and the leather looks great so it may not be aniline- it's hard to be sure. There are NO cracks into the leather, NO holes, nothing at all that's of concern. I love this leather and it presents very well overall. The leather is soft and supple. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements.
