Background Info and Provenance

(Written in 2010. This pair of art deco bedside cabinets sold from Brisbane for $720 the pair in 2010. They went to Hobart- we ended up finding a cost-effective way of getting them there. Because they were SOLID and very strong we padded them up well and sent them via regular freight. Today in 2022 I’d price the exact same pair of cabinets at around $1000 for both.)

A sensational pair of art deco bedside cabinets. PAIRS of vintage bedside tables from any era are extremely rare and art deco ones are probably the hardest of them all. These would be in the top 2 or 3 best pairs of vintage bedsides I’ve ever had. The bold styling and stunning Walnut timber tones makes them distinctly deco but allows them to be introduced into any room. These cabinets display expert construction and are A1 in quality- new bedside tables of this quality fetch in the realms $2000-$2500 the pair (but have little or no investment appeal).

These have probably come off a dressing table (many art deco pairs have). In my opinion this makes little difference to the value (because any pair is hard to find). Besides, if someone has the vision to convert an old dressing table into something more functional for today’s homes and then has the gumption, know-how, time and motivation to see this vision become a reality, I believe the item is all the more special and collectable (there is little chance you’ll see a pair like this again). Reclaiming items from the past and giving them a new lease of life is something I’m passionate about and something that should inspire us all to look at the potential in what we already have.

I will accept no offers on this pair- I’ve sold a few pairs over the years that were not as good as these for a decent amount more (one pair back in 2007 from a dressing table was bid up on ebay to $900). There’s still an opportunity price-wise for buyers in Sydney or Melbourne. (There is a removable shelf inside each cabinet.)
