Provenance and Background Info

This description was written back in 2005. I would write this description a lot differently if I came across another pair of these again but that’s unlikely. This is an exceptional Australian design (more special than similar Parker chairs simply because they’re rarely seen) but this design does take strong cues from an overseas maker at the time- I think it was a UK company who released a design like this before Duffecy. I think I’ve seen one other of these chairs for sale in this design over the last 15 years.

A beautiful PAIR of 1960’s single seater-lounge chairs by Australian designer John Duffecy. These have the sleek flowing quality of Danish furniture and would take pride of place in any lounge room. They have a beautifully sculptured frame and boast superior construction qualities. The fluid style of these chairs is second to none and the design is not only eye-catching but incredibly cultured as well. Designed by John Duffecy, a talented Australian designer of the 50’s and 60’s, Duffecy’s work was commissioned by various prominent Sydney-siders at the time and he also was responsible for the foyer interiors of several high-class Hotels in the 1960’s. Duffecy’s work shows highly refined design skill and at the time was not readily available. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find the provenance of this pair as his work is extremely rare. I have yet to come across a PAIR of chairs in this refined Scandinavian style that are better looking- the flowing lines are truly awe-inspiring. Chairs of lesser calibre in this style are in high demand at the moment making this pair an even more astute purchase.
