Provenance and Background Info
A pair of FULL-GRAIN leather armchairs designed by prolific designer, Rodolfo Dordoni for Minotti. These retailed new for around $14,000 pair only a few years ago. I can hear a swarm of people reacting to this in shock, wondering how they could get away with such prices when this type of design is not that much different to lots of other furniture out there. The truth is they don’t just get away with these prices, this Italian business has grown internationally since its inception in 1948. Minotti has been in business for over 70 years now- they must be doing a lot right! When you experience their work in the flesh it becomes plainly obvious why they have prospered. The quality is just breath-taking. These chairs are HEAVY- I can’t see any reason why these frames won’t last forever. That’s what you’re paying for when you invest in Minotti- TIMELESS, sophistication that will be passed onto future generations. If looked-after with some sense, these chairs will be more than a lifetime investment (or more).
It’s the eye for detail I love most about these. The zippers down the front legs, the sides that are almost paper-thin creating a subtle contrast to the boldness of the styling, even the beautiful quality of the leather becomes a feature in itself. But the best thing is the construction quality- the inner structure has to be steel- these are too heavy not to have steel in the frame. The timelessness of the refined design is a certainty but the durability of the construction is also assured- there’s absolutely no way Minotti could have survived through the 1980’s and 90’s if their work wasn’t at the pinnacle for quality. For those of you who won’t compromise, these chairs are the perfect offering.
BUT there’s no point insisting on quality if the function of the piece is not carefully considered. The purist comfort of these chairs is sublime- you’re perfectly supported plus they have just the right amount of “give” and plushness. The quality is also felt in the comfort.
Probably the most-important criteria iNVISeDGE considers before stocking any item is investment appeal. There’s no point buying furniture anymore- if your furniture doesn’t retain its value over time (at least) then we believe there’s no point buying it. iNVISeDGE items are carefully chosen to ensure our customers are not losing financially when they buy from us. This is the biggest no-brainer with this duo. These chairs sold about 5 years ago for about AU $14,000 the pair. I could only locate 3 of these chairs for sale IN THE WORLD at the time of writing. There’s an identical pair on ebay (that show more use than ours) for AU $7000 for a pair and a single chair in the US for US $2,800 (AU $4052 for ONE chair!) Our price needs no consideration. These chairs usually sit at the pinnacle for quality AND PRICE, but our pair instead sit firmly in the middle market. The investment appeal on offer here is obvious.
Modern chairs made with inner-chipboard frames and foam that degrades after only a handful of years are ending up as landfill in less than a decade of use. With sensible use, these Minotti chairs will evade landfill for generations. Investing in brands that have built a formidable reputation spanning decades is a smart way to go. There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
NOTE- the colour is best described as a very dark chocolate- close to black but with an earthy slant. They’d look amazing on polished concrete floors.
