Description
Background Info and Provenance
(This description was written in 2014. The pair sold through iNVISeDGE for $1595 the pair in 2014. I’d price the same pair at at least the same today, probably a bit more.)
A PAIR of Palecek single-seater feature chairs. These chairs are pure luxury and at the pinnacle as far as design and quality is concerned. Palecek is widely known in the USA for its innovative designs that combine stunning looks with natural fibres. Their extensive line of award-winning, handcrafted, and eco-conscious designs is conceived in their San Francisco headquarters. This furniture is not found in Australia- these chairs were imported into Australia by the previous owners. The previous owners are changing their décor to fit their house in Australia so they decided to part with these. I personally can’t see how they could. I come across a lot of furniture in this job but when this pair came in I fell in love with them immediately and after sitting in them wanted to keep them. They are supremely soft- you just melt into them but they are also supporting at the same time. The design is just sensational- so cool and striking but they have a restrained conservative edge as well. I love this intriguing contrast and also the rustic earthiness. If you peruse the Palecek website in America you’re in for a treat- the array and quality of their inventory is inspiring but it’s the way they do business I like best. The founders of Palecek have travelled the world developing a network of master artisans and drawing inspiration from these craftspeople and their use of quickly renewable resources. The mission statement for Palecek centres on an eco-friendly business that is also at the cutting edge of innovative design.
These chairs were purchased in America by the previous owners for about $10 000- it sounds like a lot but the quality is just sensational- the leather is the highest quality and softest ANILINE leather available and has been double-stitched, the solid hand-built hardwood frame is harvested from renewable forest and seagrass has been tirelessly hand-woven. (I think it’s seagrass- it’s rope-like and a lot more durable than cane.) The natural fibres used to create these chairs are resilient and will stand up to virtually any type of use and treatment. This is some of the highest quality furniture you’ll see. It will however take a bit more care than painted leather- you’ll need to clean and condition the leather regularly to maintain its suppleness and resistance to wear but I think this little bit of time is well worth it- aniline leather is the best on the market. There’s nothing like aniline leather- it’s pure luxury and not often seen because it’s so expensive.
For hand-crafted chairs that have been built to last the long-haul, this listing price is a bargain- Freedom Furniture sell pairs of feature chairs for more than this!
