Description
This pair of chairs sold through iNVISeDGE for $1795 the PAIR back in 2005. These days in 2019 I’d price the exact same pair at slightly more.
Provenance and Background Info

A VERY rare PAIR of 1950’s lounge chairs just reupholstered in luxurious wool crepe. I pretty sure these were done by Parker of Australia or perhaps by one of the boutique makers in Melbourne such as Dario Zoureff- the design is certainly one of the best lounge chair designs to ever come out of Australia. In my opinion they’re better than the work of Douglas Snelling and are almost up there with Featherston’s work. As shown in the photos, they’re certainly eye-catching with the interesting mix of angles and sweeping curves. These contrasts coupled with the elevation off the chair via the splayed legs give them a distinct 50’s style. In my opinion the chairs were done in the late 1950’s when Grant Featherston was producing the famous contour series of chairs. These chairs are at least as rare as Featherston’s work so therefore offer a strong investment and should only appreciate in value in years to come. The professional upholstery job in HIGH-QUALITY wool crepe fabric has cost big money making the price very reasonable. At around $895 each you can pay more for single-seater lounge chairs in Freedom Furniture but this pair offer so much more.
