These chairs are being sold on consignment by a regular iNVISeDGE seller in GEELONG, South of Melbourne.

Interstate freight can be arranged through one of our preferred furniture carriers for a reasonable additional fee (APPROX. $200 for both chairs to go to Sydney) or you can use a furniture carrier of your choice.

Background Info and Provenance

A VINTAGE PAIR of cane pretzel armchairs. This type of design is extremely popular and getting harder and harder to source these days (particularly the AUTHENTIC ART DECO productions- which these are). The circular arms make a bold statement without dominating your space. This particular production marries design flair with a refined sophisticated style.

This design is curvaceous and stunning, but it’s not as visually-dominating as the 5-strand variety. The 5-strand suites have a “boxy” look, they’re very bold and need a lot of space to “breathe”. In a smaller space, the 5-strand suites will make your space look cluttered and “closed-in”. This 3-strand design is more-minimalist, open and airy so would look better in a much wider variety of spaces. The circular flow of this design also has a touch of magic many of the others don’t have.

Rattan is DURABLE and sustainable. These frames will last generations (and already have!) but to top it off this design is also comfortable. The seat and back are set at excellent angles for comfort. The cushion inserts are also vintage, so they too were made to last. They are holding their shape well.

These are also loose cushions sitting on frames. The cushions can be flipped over if one side gets dirty and the covers can be unzipped and machine-washed (on the gentle cycle or hand-washed) at any time (just put the covers back on whilst still damp to prevent shrinkage). Re-upholstery is the cheapest possible upholstery job- just take your fabric with the old covers to anyone with a sewing machine. It’s not difficult or costly. You can have a whole new look for around $200. Chairs like this are perfect in an Airbnb place or if you have young children.

The beauty of investing in vintage design is knowing how the item will stand up to use before you shell out a cent. Look at these beauties after over 50 years of use! An item like this is the epitome of a solid investment because the design is practical, DURABLE and timeless in looks. There’s no better financial investment for your home and no better way to reduce landfill- this suite will continue to tell stories long after you and I have gone!

2107 2101 & 2021

This pair is in excellent VINTAGE condition. The cane frames are brilliant- they're over 60 years old- sturdy, strong, solid and basically impossible to break. The frames have NO structural issues at all. All joints are solid and strong with NO cracks, wobbles or repairs. Cosmetically the frames are in excellent vintage condition. Our array of photos clearly show what you'll be getting. These chairs have minor signs of use, age and very minor cosmetic restoration. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I love them as they are but you could replace the missing bindings down near the bottom of the legs if you want them to be "pretty close to perfect for vintage chairs". The bindings that remain may look a bit old (that's because they are!). I painted some of the nail heads where the bindings are missing (the front of the legs right down near the floor- this is not noticeable). The paint colour on the nail-heads is as close a match as is humanly possible (to the colour-tone of the rattan). The rattan has been thoroughly cleaned and given a light coat of oil- rattan is very resilient so a thick finish is not needed and in fact spoils the look of the chairs. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The cushions covers were re-done in the 1990’s, they have signs of use but nothing that is unsightly, there are no stains and they have zips on them which makes it easy for washing if ever needed. The foam inserts have held their shape well, when you sit in them the back is still firm and you cannot feel the slats underneath your bottom. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Semi-Circular Pretzel Pair.
