Provenance and Background Info

A rectangular Parker dining table made in the 1960’s when Parker Furniture was making their famous “Nordic” line of furniture. This is a genuine PARKER piece so displays quality construction characteristics that made Parker Furniture famous (particularly in Australia, but also worldwide). The solid timber bordering around each piece protects the table from knocks and the connection points in the undercarriage were meticulously constructed insuring there is no movement in any joint area after about 60 years of life and use. I love the size of this piece- it’s quite compact in its unextended state but when the extension pieces are employed the table comfortably seats 8 or will squeeze in 10 if you have to. I have a video on the iNVISeDGE Instagram page that shows a FLER table and how chairs fit around that table- the dimensions of this table by Parker Furniture are virtually the same. (SMS me if you’d like me to direct you to that video on Instagram.)
The other thing I like about this rectangular Parker table is the condition. The condition is AMAZING considering this is the original finish from the 1960’s. The table has been incredibly well looked-after and needs no restoration work at all. It’s in close to perfect condition after about 60 years- incredible! The original condition further increases the value of this particular table and I can tell you why if you have interest in purchasing and call me on the phone number given in our CONTACT section. The other thing I like about this is the Danish aesthetic- this is elegant, stylish piece of design and will marry perfectly with any chairs of the era- particularly those in the Danish style.
Parker Furniture was founded in 1935 by two brothers, Jack and Bruce Parker, in Sydney. Originally the company produced upholstered furniture but later expanded their product line to include mid-century modern designs and became very well-known for their furniture from the 1950s to the 1970s. In the 1960’s, they were heavily influenced by the Scandinavians – particularly Hans Wegner. Parker Furniture primarily worked in teak sourced from South East Asia.
This is a great investment piece. Teak items with this Danish aesthetic have been in high demand for at least 20 years. Values for vintage teak furniture particularly by the likes of Parker Furniture have constantly appreciated over the years and this trend is set to continue. This table has already lasted 60 years and if you look after it, it is set to be passed onto future generations. There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home and reduce landfill.
