IMPORTANT NOTE! In 2024, I value this vase at AU $189 (Peter’s work has steadily appreciated in value over the years, particularly in the last 8 years). I found this piece for cheap (in an antique centre- I don’t think they saw the signature!) so I’m giving my buyer a good deal on this.
Background Info and Provenance

A HAND-MADE Peter Goss vase engraved to the base, Peter Goss / PSG 10/85. (I’m pretty certain the 85 is the year of production- 1985 and the 10 is the month- ie. Oct 1985). Peter Goss is known as a leading Australian glass artist and the first glass artist to set up a studio in Queensland. He originally trained at the Jam Factory in Adelaide when Sam Herman was creative director (from 1974 to 1977). He then went on to set up the Paraison Glass Studio (PSG) in 1981 at Tewantin (near Noosa, Queensland).
I love the free-flowing essence of all of Peter Goss’ work. It’s obvious his pieces have come from the hands and hearts of a PERSON and are not mass-produced by machines. I also love the feeling this piece evokes in me. This one has an almost Gothic feel. It is quite dark in colouring overall but still has the multi-coloured look that Goss Glass is renowned for. It’s Gothic but fun at the same time- is that even possible??
Peter Goss wrote around 2014, “I finished blowing glass in 1991 because the financial strain became too much. It used to cost me $1,000 a month to run the studio in gas back in those days! I am currently retired and enjoy painting in water colour, drawing in pencil, and am in the process of writing a children’s book for 10 to 12 year olds entitled The Amazing Adventures of Tin Lid.”

Google, ” Peter Goss Glass ” and if you dig a little, you’ll see some amazing pieces of work by this talented Australian artist. This is certainly one to be passed from one generation to the next. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce landfill.

With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
