This listing price is for ALL 6 Bentwood dining chairs (ie. LESS than $200 per chair). ALL are in brilliant vintage condition.

Background Info and Provenance

The Chair No. 16 (also called “Sweetheart” chair) was designed in the mid-19th century by Michael Thonet, the founder of Thonet. This set of 6 chairs was produced in Romania in the 1970’s and are marked “Made In Romania”. These are incredible chairs mainly because of the age. Just look at them after 50 years of use. (And EVERY CHAIR is as solid as rock- incredible!) No guessing the quality you’ll be getting here. Plus these are as cheap as chips! What an obvious INVESTMENT! There’s absolutely no way these could be produced these days for this price but make no mistake they’re AUTHENTIC VINTAGE ORIGINALS with about 50 years behind them.

One of the most famous furniture makers of all time (without a doubt), Thonet has survived centuries in the marketplace through ingenious, timeless design- many of their current offerings are as old as the company itself. (That’s as timeless as you can get!). If you type, “Thonet chair” into Google, click on Images and scroll through you’ll agree that all of Thonet’s work is stand-out.

The harmony of the steamed beech wood (stained a slightly-darker tone) creates a sinewy flow that will add that touch of elegance to any space.

But there’s no point buying furniture if it hasn’t been built to last. Thonet has been a mainstay because of the superior DURABILITY of their designs. These chairs don’t need to be pandered to- evidence of that is in the thousands of Thonet café chairs we’ve all seen in eateries. The arched frame is not only a thing of beauty but supports the structure of these chairs giving them an amazing level of stability and strength.

Thonet chairs combine age-old construction quality with timelessness in design. Their designs have never gone out of style and never will. The quality of their construction has never been questioned and never will. To top it off, buying something that has already been used is probably the smartest way you can go- you can see exactly how the chair will stand up to about 50 years of use (before you even pay a cent). There’s no better way I can think of to invest in your home, reduce landfill and lower your carbon footprint.

All SIX of these Thonet dining chairs are in solid sturdy condition. There are NO gaps in any joint, NO wobbles in any joint, NO cracks/ NO splits, NO repairs- NO structural damage of any kind. They’re all rock-solid chairs. The seats are plywood. Quality plywood seats are the better option because webbing and woven-cane sags and needs to be replaced over the years- plywood seats never need replacing if the chairs are used with any sense. Cosmetically these chairs are also in brilliant condition- the timber presents extremely well for chairs that are about 50 years old- just the odd sign of use here and there but nothing that draws your eye or warrants a specific mention.
