A 3.5 seater AUTHENTIC DANISH-made lounge sofa by Svend Ellekjær in stunning Pallisander Rosewood. Incredibly RARE on an international platform, there are various Svend Ellekjær coffee tables for sale online at present (all of them overseas) but NO lounge sofas I could find at all. This is an early 1960’s piece and in Australia a stand-out piece of design. It’s something I’ve never come across before in 15 years of trading. Beautifully refined in shape and style, the stunning figuring in this highly-prized timber takes focus as does the top-quality construction. Aniline Buffalo leather has been used which is probably the highest quality vintage upholstery you’ll find. It’s incredibly thick and hard-wearing and wears beautifully in a way only quality leather will. Look at it after almost 60 years of use! Total luxury to sink into, you’re not sitting on paint (which is the norm with leather) but full-grain leather that has been treated with natural dyes. (This piece has very HIGH prana (life energy) that synthetic coverings will never have.) Rosewood is extremely rare and sought-after because in the mid-1970’s (15 years AFTER this sofa was made) various furniture manufacturers took an environmental stand against the continued use of Rosewood because these trees were becoming endangered. This means all vintage Rosewood pieces are RARE and sought-after world-wide, particularly Australia. I can count on one hand how many Rosewood pieces I’ve sold in 15 years of being on this business.
The construction quality is expert- handcrafted in Europe to last generations, the materials top-quality, the comfort pure luxury, the looks … you be the judge ! … this is one of the most stunning pieces I’ve come across (it shows that Mother Nature is the most captivating designer of them all but the design itself by Svend Ellekjær complements the awe-inspiring timber figuring). This leaves investment appeal- Rosewood pieces are not going to get easier to find in the future and this stunning timber has been a perennial favourite- always sought-after by interior architects going for any number of styles and looks.
The best part of investing in items such as these is knowing exactly how they’ll stand up over time- look at this one after almost 60 years! You’re assured of the quality you’ll be getting AND it’s one of those rare pieces that will not lose any value the second you buy it but instead will become more prized as the years roll on.
