Provenance & Description

An OKRA perfume bottle with captivating decoration. This piece was HAND-MADE in England and is quite large for a perfume bottle measuring 16cm in height. It would be ideal in any collection of art-glass. This piece is signed to the base “Okra 1985 WO. LSB. No 11” so it’s one of their earlier pieces. The signature is unusual for Okra- I get the feeling it could have been part of a series. The design is very rare- I’ve never seen another one exactly like it but there was another bottle online in the same shape (and size) while I was researching this piece with a different decoration and number. That piece was priced on ebay at AU $391 (see the screenshot).

This is a good size (16cm) which is larger than most Colin Heaney pieces. This exact piece by Heaney would command about $360. Okra is one of the world’s heavyweights in art-glass. They’ve been on the scene since 1979 and been one of Europe’s most successful art-glass works ever. Richard Golding is still making art glass today and until recently, was still working with Okra. His most recent Okra Limited Edition pieces are worth about AU$4000.

There is an amazing flow of energy to this piece. It has a free-flowing spontaneous essence- just how nature is.

In Australia, Okra pieces are an astute investment. They offer us something outside of what’s been done by Australian artists- it’s very likely you’ll not see another piece like this in Australia again.

Okra glass will be passed from one generation to the next adding more stories and value as it does. Because this piece is HAND-CRAFTED and vintage, there are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint. This piece is bound to be still telling stories well after you and I are gone. This listing price is for the vase shown in every photo.
