Background Info and Provenance

(Written in 2022. Some information (eg. values) will be time sensitive.)

A vintage smoky / smoked cut-glass decanter. This a really rare. I’ve had it in my collection for 20 years hoping to find out more about it but in that time I’ve never come across another remotely like it. It’s definitely HAND-MADE and old. I’d say it’s art deco / nouveau (probably made in the 1930’s) but it could be earlier. Many antique Victorian-era (c. late 1800’s) have cut-glass decoration around the base like this (but most decanters from that era are made of clear glass).

The base decor has been cut in the glass by hand- this is a time-intensive process and requires a good deal of skill and expertise. I love the beehive top here! (This is what leads me to think it’s an art deco / art nouveau piece. The beehive shape was used in a lot of decor during the art deco era.)

After many of today’s décor items have ended up as landfill, this 80+ year-old piece will be handed onto yet another generation to tell a whole new swarm of stories to. There is no better way I can think of to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint. Investing in authentic vintage décor pieces is a smart way to go- in future years these pieces should only continue to increase in value.
