SOLD during COVID-19 lockdown for AU$750 for ALL 8 glasses- BARGAIN! NOTE- all our prices are in AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS which is considerably LESS in AMERICAN DOLLARS.

Background Info and Provenance

A RARE set of 8 wine glasses HAND-CRAFTED by one of the world’s most eminent contemporary glass-blowers, Steven Maslach. (Maslach is American.) These are RARE on a world-wide platform- they’d probably be the only set of art-glass goblets even remotely like this in Australia. You occasionally come across single wine goblets by Colin Heaney and they constantly get bid up to $360 EACH on ebay. I’ve never seen more than a pair of Heaney goblets for sale ever though. As a set of 8 if they were by Heaney they’d easily fetch, $2800. And I like these just as much as Heaney’s goblets. Heaney’s are thick and a bit chunky in feel- these are a much more elegant glass- more suited to wine. They have a fine-art feel but with the creative spirit and essence of free-form glass. They’re refined and precise but have the spontaneous and care-free feel of glass crafted BY HAND. (I’d be open to selling these as a set of 6 or even a pair- contact me if you want a different number.)

Maslach is one of the world’s most celebrated contemporary art-glass artists. He’s been blowing glass since 1971 (an incredible 47 years!) and started gathering awards from 1985. He studied glassblowing at California College of Arts and Crafts under Sam Herman from 1968 – 1970. Sam Herman is one of Australia’s most collectable glass artists- he worked out of the Jam Factory in Adelaide from 1974 to 1979. Whenever Herman pieces come up they often raise about $1000 each in auction. Maslach is still blowing glass to this day and his work is highly collectable. There are a pair of Maslach glass goblets on ebay in America at the moment for $645 AUD (so AU $320 EACH). This set would not only become something you look forward to using and appreciating but at this price they offer a very solid investment. (EACH glass is signed- engraved with Maslach’s signature and the date- 1979.)

Art-glass pumped out of factories in the thousands by machines is cheap but it rarely ignites any inspiration and creativity- there’s no “life-essence” in it. Most ends up as landfill within a few years. Steven Maslach’s creativity and expertise in glass has superseded trends and will continue to tell stories for generations to come. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
