Background Info and Provenance

A stunning art glass vase from the studios of MDINA GLASS- Malta. Mdina pieces are captivating with their individualistic quality and earthy resonance. The beauty of Mdina Glass is that it’s still relatively affordable, however upmarket galleries in the UK are devoting increasing attention to Mdina and values are steadily increasing. The better examples draw attention from serious collectors worldwide making vintage Mdina pieces a solid investment.

I like that there appears to be a rush of energy coming through the top of this one which then spreads throughout the body. People can see in it what they want- Harris was most likely inspired by ocean waves. I see the ocean theme as a symbol of something more in this piece. Mdina art is like bringing a piece of the earth inside your home and this is why it’s a favourite of mine.

This particular Mdina design, made in the late 1970’s or 1980’s, is not easy to find and one of their most sought-after. The piece is signed (as shown in the photos) solidifying the investment. The Mdina flowing script on the base also indicates it’s a vintage Mdina piece (newer pieces were signed differently).

Upon close inspection it’s obvious this piece is HAND-made (like all Mdina pieces) and not mass-produced by machines. The individualistic quality of all Mdina pieces is what attracts the collectors- glass-making techniques of yesteryear are a dying art and the vintage stuff that survives (and attracts collectors) increases in value over time. This art-glass piece has already been around for about 40 years and been much admired. The beauty of Mdina pieces is knowing they have a good chance of outliving us all- art glass like this will continue to tell stories after machine-made, modern decor has ended up as landfill. There’s no better way to invest in your home and in our environment.
