Background Info and Provenance
This description was written back in 2007.
A DANISH armchair or side chair. In my opinion this piece is about 40 years old. A quick glance at this chair is all that’s needed to be sure of its superior design and construction quality. This armchair is stunning with its sculptural elegance and attentive design. In my opinion the chair is most likely an authentic DANISH piece- there’s an off-chance it could have been done by Australia’s TH Brown and Sons in the early 60’s- even if it is a TH Brown piece, it’s probably a registered Danish design anyway. What I like most about this chair is the superior construction- (the best you can get). The frame is crafted beautifully of teak, the seat section is moulded plywood and the upholstery is the highest quality vinyl which has withstood years of use, eliminating the need of reupholstery, after about 40 years of use. The plywood seat also eliminates the need of ever having to replace webbing. This is a strong, solid chair and even though it has some age to it, it’s still in A1 structural condition. This TH Brown and Sons or Danish chair could be used and displayed anywhere around the home and pulled into a dining table whenever an extra chair is needed- it’d look great in a bedroom corner or even in the lounge room of a small apartment as a feature chair or desk chair. If you’re after a single chair to complete your space you’d be hard pressed to find a better investment.
