NOTE- NO veneer has been used in this piece at all- ALL SOLID timber (and stone / marble).

Provenance and Background Info

A stunning marble and oak console table / hall table / writing table / desk with a beautiful stone top- it’s probably marble but I’m no geologist (!) The quality of this piece just screams at you. I bought it from Melbourne and had it shipped up here to Brisbane. The previous owners paid $1300 for it. The stone top alone has significant value- I love the surfboard shape but what’s more amazing is the rounded edges. This creates a really classy piece. I like the quality of the timber used as well- the timber is flawless- no “knots” and a nice, “clean” grain. Despite the boxy-look of the base- the overall look is chic and minimalist.

It took me 3 months to find this- when I couldn’t get what I wanted in Brisbane I had to cast the net wider- this came up in Melbourne. I’m not sure where it was purchased from but it has the design and quality of something from the high-end shops such as Coco Republic. I had 4 criteria- it had to look classy and minimalist, it had to be TOP quality, VERY narrow and it also had to provide enough storage to close away my work at the end of the day. This doubled as a kitchen table / kitchen counter space in the small inner-city studio I was living in at the time.

After moving house it then became a desk in a bedroom but my new flat-mate has bought a desk with her so it’s time to reluctantly bid this farewell. I had a melamine top cut for it (at Bunnings) in a smaller size to use in the bedroom. This is the other thing I loved about this one- the marble top is removable which allows you to put another top on it if it needs to fit a different space after you move house. I really love it and with it’s proportions I’m sure there’s someone out there who also needs a narrow desk for the bedroom or narrow console for a hallway or lounge room. After poorly-built items have ended up as landfill- this quality piece, showing meticulous construction will be passed onto yet another owner and then a whole new generation. At this price it’s a no-brainer investment and will retain its value (at least) as you get to use and enjoy it.
