Provenance & Background Information

A stunning Swedish vintage vase in a plum colour. This colour in teardrop vases is RARE- this is the first time I’ve seen one of these in this colour. I’m pretty sure this is a Gullaskruf one.  These vases are at least 40 times rarer here in Australia compared to Europe (and they’re collectable in Europe). Teardrop vases have been featured in various reference books on 20th Century Glass including Leslie Pina’s, Fire and Sea. First designed by Arthur Percy in 1952, the eye-catching shape meant it was included in the Corning Glass Museum special exhibition in 1959. Throughout the 50’s and 60’s, teardrop vases were produced by at least four Swedish glassworks- Elme, Gullaskruf, Aseda and Lindshammar. I’ve seen the largest ones (76cm Ht) in this design priced at over $600 on ebay in America- this vouches for their collectability.

Each teardrop vase was made by hand with variations in size and shape- no two are exactly alike. Some colours are rarer than others- I think this plum colour is the rarest colour out of them all.

This vase is a vintage original- guaranteed. This shape is still copied today which means the design has come to supersede trends and become a timeless classic. There are very few better ways to invest in your home and our environment.
