Description
This bench seat with original cushion sold through iNVISeDGE for $480 back in 2008. Today in 2019 I’d price the exact same piece at around $550.
Background Info & Provenance
Unfortunately I can’t find the description I wrote for this piece back in 2008 so I’ll write a few sentences now (2019).
This bench seat with original cushion was most likely custom-made. I’ve never seen anything like this in 17 years of trading. I’d say it was made in the 1950’s- most likely, it was custom-built in Australia. It may have been done by one of the boutique makers of the era such as the Rosando Brothers or Jakob Rudowski but I found it in Sydney so perhaps more likely a 1950’s maker operating in Sydney. There are no firms that come to mind going by the style and construction of the piece. This was a high-quality piece with a fine eye for detail. It was about 1.8m long so could have been made as bench seat to put at the foot of a bed- I don’t know. In today’s homes it’d be a cool coffee table and if you needed extra seating whack on the top cushion. This piece was built to be sat on and was strong and sturdy. A fascinating piece and whilst it’s not one that jumps off the page I had to upload it onto our site- an interesting piece of history.
