Description
The listed price is for ONE Flexalum chair only. The $165 price is for one of these chairs with the ORIGINAL white finish in VERY GOOD / EXCELLENT condition. We currently have 10 chairs like this. WE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER 4 THAT HAVE BEEN PROFESSIONALLY POWDER-COATED (I have a receipt for this- THE POWDER-COATING ALONE WAS $85 PER CHAIR!) We’d sell the professionally powder-coated ones for $265 each. (The cost of powder-coating has since gone up.) I may be willing to sell these in multiples of 2 but I’d prefer to sell them as a set of 6,8 or 10. They are near impossible to get as a set of 6 or more.
The description below was written in 2017. There’s a small add-on part I’d like to add here. 8 of these chairs were used at an apartment I’ve since sold (see the photos). For the application I used them in I believe they were the very best investment I could have made. THESE CHAIRS INCREASED IN VALUE OVER THE YEARS I USED THEM (THE CONDITION OF THEM STAYED THE SAME AFTER BEING ON AN EXPOSED ROOF-TOP TERRACE NEAR THE OCEAN FOR 3 YEARS!) The quality of these Australian-made chairs is irrefutable- look at them after more than 60 years! (In essence you get to use these chairs and if you keep them for years, you will not pay anything for the privilege). I can’t see any reason why Flexalum chairs won’t at least retain their value forever (but it’s likely they will continue to increase in value in the future along with inflation). FLEXALUM CHAIRS NEVER CORRODE IN FULL WEATHER. This set has no corrosion even after being exposed to all the elements including salt air. I never even washed these down over the 3 years I had them up there- just look at them! They NEVER blew over either and we had a cyclone go through there and a couple of really bad storms- completely exposed to winds coming in from the ocean.
We currently have ONE FLEXALUM CIRCULAR TABLE for sale- $270 for the table (a non-extension one).

Provenance and Background Information
(This description was written in 2017 but updated in 2022)
These VINTAGE Flexalum chairs (made in Australia the late-1950’s and 1960’s) are thick cast ALUMINIUM so they’re strong and sturdy- I can’t see how they ever could any structural problem- none of these chairs have any corrosion AT ALL which is extraordinary for something that has gone out in full weather. They’ve already lasted over 60 years- I can’t see why they won’t last forever. Sets of 4 Flexalum chairs are hard to find but a set of 6 or 8 is near impossible. We found these as a pair and two sets of four- they were found over a period of 18 months and over 250 km apart. (My Admin Assistant drove over 100 km to get the final set of 4 chairs- I was keen to assemble more than 6 as I think they’re one of the best outdoor designs ever made.) Sets of 6 or 8 are worth more (per chair) because they’re vintage and were only ever sold as sets of 4 when retailed 60 years ago (with a small circular table). (In 2017 when I wrote this description I’d been business about 16 years and had never seen a set of 6 Flexalum chairs for sale.)
Flexalum chairs are cast aluminium- despite being thick metal they’re easy to move around, won’t blow over in strong wind and won’t corrode at all. They’re also small which is perfect for a smaller balcony and makes it easy to store away chairs that are not always needed. If you have a larger space you can get more Flexalum chairs around a large table.
In my opinion, the comfort of these chairs is good. For great comfort you need seat pads. I kept seat pads in an outdoor storage box and just bought them out when we were sitting down for extended periods.
The best thing about investing in Flexalum furniture is the inspiration it evokes- this outdoor furniture ticks every box and provides a benchmark for modern companies to work towards. This suite was built to last and will continue telling stories long after you and I are gone. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.
We sell vintage Flexalum chairs (c. early 1960’s) from $150 to $265 EACH depending on the condition of the white finish. They are $265 each if the white finish is professionally powder-coated and $150 each if the white-finish has major wear. (Contact us to see what we currently have in stock and where the chairs are located.) The finish of Flexalum chairs is COSMETIC only! Flexalum chairs NEVER rust, NEVER corrode even if the finish is wearing off. I personally like them even when the finish isn’t perfect- they’re vintage chairs and have a story to tell. Signs of use and age add character in my eyes. (THE WHITE FINISH DOES NOT AFFECT THE DURABILITY OF THESE CHAIRS AT ALL (EVEN IN FULL WEATHER)! The white finish of all 10 Flexalum chairs that we currently have is excellent.
