A VINTAGE Kosta enameled vase engraved to the base (Kosta 47318). To my knowledge this means this piece was created in 1973- the 73 (after the 4 is the year of production … I’m pretty sure …). This is an incredibly rare piece done by Ann and Goran Warff (most likely in the 1970’s). I have only seen a handful of these in the last 20 years. One was listed on 1st Dibs in the USA for US $2000 (AU $2880)- this no longer appears on 1st Dibs so it has sold. A pair of these has been auctioned in Christies of New York in 2012 and at the time of writing there was one on-line in the Modernism Gallery in Florida USA for US $950 (approx. AU $1250).
This is a rare piece of glass history by highly-esteemed artists. There’s a real allure to vintage Kosta Boda and this piece is one of Warff’s most highly regarded designs. The crackly enamel colours that merge together create a captivating effect- a dark forest as the sun sets with purple, pink and amber hues. The effect is only so startling because of the clever way light is encouraged to pass through the vase. One face has been cut BY HAND which allows the enameled side of the vase to shine through the crystal and reflect within the vase and the inner sides. This is a highly complex piece of art for the 1960’s- not many were produced and these days the design attracts such attention that Christies of New York accepts it. There’s a lot of Kosta Boda out there, there’s much less from the 1960’s and 1970’s when this particular design by the Warff duo was done. This is one of the rarest of any Kosta (Boda) design I’ve ever had.
This piece is signed Kosta with the design number- obviously before Kosta and Boda merged in 1976. It also has the original Kosta decal label which cements its investment appeal. The piece is best displayed where there is at least average light.
This piece is one to be passed from one generation to the next. Instead of adding to global pollution consider buying hand-made vintage pieces that have inspired artists the world over- there are very few better ways you can invest in your home and reduce your carbon footprint.

This vintage piece is in excellent condition for its age with no damage to report. NO cracks, NO chips, NO noticeable damage. There is a small flaw on the cut edge near the bottom. This has been shown in photo 9. This most likely occurred during manufacture and only warrants a mention because of the value and rarity of this piece. It is not noticed on display- it’s very small and with the crackly effect it’s completely lost. Use the mouse Zoom-in tool- this area has been photographed clearly. It could easily be polished out if you want perfection- I personally don’t see the point. The piece otherwise has minor signs of use to be expected of a glass piece that’s about 50 years old- nothing that’s noticeable or certainly that spoils the piece at all. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Pick-up in person must be worked out prior to purchase- thank you. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE is offered internationally. All our Decorative Arts pieces are delivered through AUSTRALIA POST. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ POSTAGE ESTIMATES. . . . ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ To BRISBANE- most of our pieces cost $15 - $18 to send. . . To SYDNEY or MELBOURNE- Small Vase- around $20 - $23, Medium Vase- around $20 - $25, Large Vase- around $24 - $30. Let us know if you need an EXACT COST for postage prior to purchase. The above postage estimates include $2.95 for a signature on delivery. . . INSURANCE against being lost or broken in transit up to the value of $200 is included in the estimates above. If your vase is cheaper or more expensive than $200 this will effect your postage fee slightly. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A BOXING FEE of $3.00 is included in the fee above to cover the cost of searching for and storing used packing materials. With the millions of cardboard boxes that end up as landfill every year we don’t believe in supporting the manufacture of boxes for post. Instead of buying new boxes and packing materials and passing this cost onto our customers we spend considerable time sourcing used boxes and then fashioning boxes to fit each item. We do the same for bubble-wrap and foam pieces. This requires a large investment of time, energy, ingenuity, organization and storage space- it is much easier and cheaper to buy new packing materials but I can’t justify taking the easy way out when so much packing material ends up polluting our earth. Our $3.00 charge does little to pay for the time (and storage) needed do this and to pack your item (there is also the time needed to get your package to the post office). This is something we’re happy to do for our customers and the environment. We appreciate your support in this area.
