Provenance and Background Info

A stunning LARGE 2.5 metre / 4-seater sofa by highly acclaimed Zani Collezione Poltrone of Italy. This piece is in the same league as B & B Italia- superb quality and thoughtful, stunning design. It was made in Italy- I’d say about 40 years ago. This is a careful guess- the condition of the lounge is brilliant so it’s hard to know for sure. This sofa was kept in the formal lounge room and hardly used because the previous owner regularly travelled internationally for work. I’m not sure where he bought it because I’ve seen none others in the 24 years I’ve been in this business. He could have had it personally sent to Australia or may have bought it in via an interior designer. You’re not going to see another one of these in anyone else’s lounge room in a hurry- if ever.

This design ticks every box and resoundingly so. The comfort is just incredible with its soft velvety fabric. Feel yourself melt into this after a big day at work. The seat cushions have a mix or feathers and foam which is regarded as the best way to go- foam for support and the feather-down top for luxurious softness. The practicality of this sofa was light-years ahead of the rest when it was first conceived (about 45 years ago)- all the back rests swivel up for shoulder support or push completely flat along the back for a stylish, minimalist look in seconds. The fabric is extremely practical as well- this had a few VERY feint marks on it when it came in- they cleaned off with a damp cloth- easily and quickly. It’s like velvet but with a shorter pile. The design is also stunning- the fabric colour perfect- grey is a perennially popular choice. It won’t show the dirt and this fabric has a subtle earthy slant which will also allow you to introduce earthy decor into your space. Interiors that are all grey, white and black are awful- hospital like- this sofa is also homely with it’s a “warm-grey” colour.

Finally, a big tick for investment appeal. There were only TWO of these sofas for sale in the world at the time of writing. (Selling as a pair.) This makes this sofa a LOT rarer than the much-celebrated Maralunga design by B&B Italia. The pair are for sale on 1st Dibs for AU$13,248 ($6,600 AU each). BUT are in leather and need re-upholstery. The sofa on offer here does NOT- it looks brilliant as is- it has had little use and the fabric is not only beautiful but easy to clean. Finally this is a great size for any space. It’s a larger 4-seater so perfect as the only seating in your lounge room- great for smaller apartments but also big enough for any house if you bring in a pair of stunning designer chairs to cap off your space.

After many modern sofas have ended up as landfill this high-quality Italian piece will be passed onto yet another owner and another generation. There’s no better way to invest in your home and reduce landfill. Investing in furniture (or anything) that’s been built to last is our only way out of this mess.

As the photos show, this sofa is in excellent condition for its age. The construction is VERY solid and top quality. I’d say it has a steel frame or is solid hardwood because it’s quite heavy. The fabric quality is the absolute best- soft fabrics will not usually hold up over time but this fabric certainly has. It has NO noticeable marks, NO stains, NO signs of pets, NO smells (eg. from cigarette smoke), NO wear. The fabric shows little use. It may show signs of age but nothing noticeable. The fabric has faded but you only realise this when you turn the cushions over (it’s not really noticeable otherwise). There’s a small area on one seat cushion that shows up as a very-feint straight line on the seat- this is a small area where the fabric hasn’t faded. I’d say it was from a crease in the fabric which protected that line of fabric from sunlight for quite a long time. This verifies that this sofa was in the “good room” and barely ever used (a good thing really)- that could never happen in anyone’s everyday space. The top part of the head-rest section may also have faded a bit but this is a pedantic observation because sometimes I think it has faded a bit and then at others I think that this is just how the light reflects off that panel of fabric. The fabric is velvet and the light reflects off that panel of fabric differently to every other panel around it. The fading (if it is there) is not noticed unless pointed out (because of the way light reflects off it) so it's a really silly observation- it shouldn't warrant a mention but I've learnt in this business to over-state, not under-state. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I’d predict this piece would have cost at least AU$10,000 new about 40 years ago and it has very little to show (if anything) in the form of use. The frame is completely solid, the cushioning looks close to new and the fabric is in amazing condition for soft fabric that has decent age to it. There’s also nice springiness under the cushions- there's probably springs in the seat section of the frame. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Measurements. Length- 2.5m. Depth with headrest in upright position- 95cm. Height with headrest in upright position- 82cm. Height of the Seat, from the floor to the top-most point of the seat (near the front)- 45cm. The seat slants back (as it should for proper seating comfort- the sofa itself holds you in proper seating position so you don't have to hold yourself up. The seat height is lower near the back of the sofa. Seats that are flat- parallel to the floor- are cheaper to produce and don't promote proper seating comfort.) This 45cm measurement is a good figure when compared to other lounges. For a lounge, it would not be classed as being low to the floor. Depth of Seat- 52.5cm. FOR FREIGHT (in its most compact state)- 2.5 X 1 X 0.74 = 1.85 cubic metres.
